The Boston Red Sox are hoping to have Massachusetts Senator Edward Kennedy throw out the ceremonial first pitch Monday when they host the Tampa Bay Rays on Opening Day at Fenway Park, according to a report by the Boston Herald.

Kennedy, who has been battling brain cancer for the past year, returned to Capitol Hill last week after an extended absence. Because of his medical condition, Kennedy's availability for Monday is uncertain.

The Red Sox also plan to have their players walk past fans in seating areas throughout Fenway Park during pregame introductions Monday.
