Thanks to Kim Komando for this lead on to Photomosaics
She writes:
Photomosaics were all the rage a few years ago. These are photographs constructed from hundreds or thousands of photos. The underlying photos are shrunk to a tiny size.

The mosaics are amazing. And you wouldn't believe the amount of work that goes into them. But I've discovered something better.

Like photomosaics, National Geographic's Infinite Photograph is comprised of smaller photos. But the project is more ambitious. It uses more than 300,000 images!

The way the Infinite Photograph works is also very different. You view it in your browser. When you click on the photo, it zooms in to the smaller photos.

Now you'll see the infinite part. When you click on a smaller photo, even more pictures are revealed. In fact, the more you click, the more images you'll see.

The Infinite Photograph is a work in progress. Future versions will contain higher resolution images. It will also work faster.
