Palm's Pre to take aim at BlackBerry, iPhone

The Palm Pre is coming to Canada. Yesterday, Palm Inc. PALM-Q announced the highly anticipated touch screen smart phone would make its way north of the border in the second half of 2009 and would be available exclusively through Bell Mobility. The Pre is the first Palm device to feature the company's new webOS operating system. Analysts have touted the Pre as somewhat of a comeback device for Palm, which has struggled in recent years to find a hit phone to compete against Research In Motion Ltd.'s BlackBerry devices and Apple Inc.'s iPhone. The device is expected to go on sale in the U.S. this summer on Sprint Nextel Corp.'s network. Palm is also prepping its own application storefront to provide third party games and software that will run on webOS, similar to Apple's App Store and RIM's App World. PALM (Nasdaq) fell 25 cents (U.S.) to $11.25.
